Read Biopolitics

Good book. Esposito's prose in translation can be a bit convoluted and his thinking is a bit too dependent upon the dialectic sometimes, but he is a very, very smart an important to biopolitical thinker and this book is the deeper exploration of what is a chapter in Biopolitics, which is what you should probably read first to see if you want to read further in this book.

Unapproachable, Disappointing

I was excited by the topic of this book as it looks to be quite relevant to some related areas I'm studying. However, I couldn't get more than 20 pages in to this monstrosity. I don't know if the problem is the original work or the English translation, but it's going to be unreadable for 99% of the population. It goes out of its way to use obscure vocabulary when simple words would have done fine.
I put a paragraph in to a readability-score engine and it gave it a 1.8 out of 100, and a grade level of 19.7.
Here is an example sentence:
"Without concealing its constitutive antinomy, even calling attention to it, this new interpretation situates immunity in a nonexcluding relation with its common opposite." (pg. 17)
I'm sure if I spent long enough, I could unpack that, but that makes for painful reading. I don't believe the concepts of this book as so complex as to be impossible to impart with common language. Hopefully someone will translate the translation one day, and I'll read that.
Very disappointing.
