Complex, but very elucidating.

It is a very high level dialogue between two scientists that permeates our social and individual behavior. I suggest the reader not to stop reading when the understanding fail because as the dialogue continues the understanding comes back. The authors seem to be independents from any submission to specific groups of thought academic or not.

Moral Blindness

I like the format of this book – a dialogue between two experts. That said I found the book heavy going and not by any means a light read. It is a fascinating subject and something which should concern everyone in modern society. We seem to have developed a total unconcern for the suffering of others as evidenced by incidents such as people on a road bridge being urged to jump because they are holding everyone up.
This is not a book for the general reader and unless you’re used to reading at the level of university text books then you are going to struggle with this book as I did. I would love to read a book on the same subject aimed at the general reader as it is something which we all need to be aware of. There is always a danger if we are too wrapped up in our busy lives that we will cease to be aware of others.

He raises critical issues, but this is not his best response

Bauman has been a significant voice in the battle to keep our humanity in the face of modern commercialism and ethical blindness in politics. His questions, and many of his answers remain among the finest expositions of a humane responses to capitalism, totalitarianism and communism. He continues bravely to battle the forces of darkness, moral dissociation and human indifference. While this is not his best book, it is still well worth reading, though I found Liquid Life and Liquid Love to be much better.
